CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS

What is Chiropractic?
Trauma, repetitive motions or stress can cause muscle tension, joint pain or nerve irritation. Chiropractic care is a hands-on therapy that helps reduce pain and discomfort from the above conditions, as well as corrects improper body motions. Without adequate care, the body starts to break down in other surrounding areas leading to further discomfort and degeneration.
What can a Chiropractor do for me?
Chiropractors are highly trained to examine the body’s nervous, muscular and joint systems. They examine the area of complaint as well as the surrounding areas to ensure that no further dysfunctions have occurred. After a thorough exam, a treatment plan is design to match your specific needs and tolerance. At our clinic, our chiropractors incorporate a variety of techniques including: spinal and extremity joint adjustments (see below), electrotherapies (e.g.: laser therapy), acupuncture, custom fit orthotics etc...to help you get better faster!
What is an adjustment?
When a joint is “stuck”, it loses its normal motion and the surrounding muscles become sore and inflamed. Patients may experience pain, discomfort and limited ranges of motion. An adjustment is a gentle thrust done by our doctors’ hands to restore the normal position and motion of a joint. Sometimes patients hear a “pop”. This sound is the release of pressure built up within that joint – similar to the sounds of a pop can opening.
Is Chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic care is recognized as one of the safest alternative therapeutic approaches to neck, low back and joint pain. Chiropractors are highly trained (see chiropractic education) and regulated by the Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors (www.albertachiro.com). If you have further concerns, please ask one of our doctors about research studies conducted for its efficacy and safety.
Do I require x-rays?
Depending on your medical history and current symptoms, our chiropractors may refer you for x-rays. In Alberta, x-rays and diagnostic ultrasounds are covered under Alberta Heath Services.
How long will I require treatment?
It depends on each person, and each condition! After the examination, our chiropractors will discuss with you the results and provide you their professional recommendations. Part of their recommendations will include length of treatment.
Does Alberta Health Care cover Chiropractic?
No, however most extended health care plans do include chiropractic coverage. Please consult with your personal extended health insurance providers. As of July 1, 2012, Alberta Blue Cross has provided seniors (over 65 years) with $200 of chiropractic care per year; for each visit $25 will be covered by this service.
Do I require a referral?
You do not require a referral to see one of our doctors. Simply contact our office and book an assessment with one of our chiropractors.
